"Stuart Little"

"Stuart Little" Comes To Delta Center Stage July 19-July 22
by Beth Giachelli

The Delta Center Stage production of Stuart Little will open Thursday, July 19th and run through Sunday, July 22nd. Based on the novel by E.B.White, this is a heartwarming story of Stuart Little, a charming mouse who is adopted by a human family, to the disgust of the housecat and his brother George. The tale unfolds as Stuart grows accustomed to his new role, eventually winning over everyone he mets.

Stuart is faced with challenges and choices that could risk his truly deserved happiness, but he doesn’t look at the world from a mouse’s perspective. Instead, he recognizes that he looks different than other “people” and carries on anyway.

The play is made up of nearly forty-five case members, most of which are younger children. Only ten or eleven teenagers, including stage help, are involved in the play. Stuart Little is being played by Johnisha Mosley and according to co-director Abby Kinnebrew, “things are going really well. It is a lot of hard work, but the children seem to be having fun.”

Directing the play is Thomas La Foe, with the help of Kinnebrew. He is assisted by Carrie Kimball, musical director and Kelly Miller, supervisor.

“What is so unique about this play,” says Kinnebrew, “is that we have made it musical. None of the songs the children will be performing are in the actual movie.” So, for all of you who think you’ve seen it before, the cast-members of Stuart Little are hoping to bring you something new.

Despite an obvious appeal to the younger audience, Stuart Little manages to strike a balance between children’s fantasy and an adult sensibility. Seamless technical effects make this a work of entertainment so much so that even the most jaded film goes will be enchanted.

All performances of Stuart Little will be in the Jake & Freida Stein Hall of the Bass Cultural Center. Curtain time for Thursday through Saturday is 7:30 p.m., with the Sunday matinee beginning at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available at McCormick Book Inn, Dattel & Company, Wells-Lott Village Pharmacy, and Tecinfo in Leland.

All of the people involved in the Stuart Little production invite you to join them for a fun-filled performance that is sure to entertain the entire family!
