"Marvin's
Room"
The last
play of our millennial season is "Marvin's Room"
being performed at Stein Hall (old Bass school) Thursday thru
Saturday, May 18 20, 7:30 p.m. with a final matinee
on Sunday, May 21, 2:30 p.m.
"Marvin's
Room" by Scott McPherson is a hilarious and wonderful
account of one woman's commitment to loving others first,
and her belief that giving such love has made her life unbelievably
rich, even as she faces her own death.
'Bessie'
(Mary Frances Maxey) lives in Florida and takes care for her
aunt Ruth (Sharon Clark) and her father Marvin (Micheal Sherman).
Aunt Ruth has several collapsed vertebrae and has to wear
a electrode pack on her wrist that she uses to control her
constant pain and which also wildly opens and closes the garage
door at random intervals.
Unable
to speak and confined to his bed for years, Marvin's only
entertainment come bouncing beams of sunlight, reflected from
a small mirror. Bessie learns amidst all this that she to
has been become sick also. Her sister Lee (Penny Byler) comes
from her Ohio home to Florida with her two sons; Hank (Cory
Cunningham), who has just been released from a 'institution',
and the quiet, shy Charlie (David Cunningham).
