"Jesus
Christ, Superstar"
Our next
production in the 1999-2000 season is "Jesus Christ,
Superstar" on Thursday, February 24th, 2000 at 7:30pm
at Stein Hall at the Bass Cultural Center, Greenville.
Other
performances on the Friday & Saturday following at 7:30
p.m., then a Sunday Matinee at 2:30 p.m.
Jesus
Christ Superstar is a monument in musical history. Subtitled
'A Rock Opera', it was released in October 1970 amongst great
controversy. The work centers around the last seven days of
Christ's life seen through the eyes of Judas.

It was
composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, who did the music to Joseph
and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita, Variations,
Tell Me on a Sunday, Cats, Starlight Express, Requiem, The
Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulevard, By
Jeeves and Whistle Down the Wind. The lyrics were written
by Tim Rice, who also wrote for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat, Evita, Blondel, Chess, Starmania/Tycoon, Beauty
and the Beast, Heathcliff, King David, The Lion King and Aida.
Delta
Center Stage and the Delta Symphony Association will bring
this story of Christ's last days to the stage February 24,
25, and 26 at 7:30p.m. and a 2:30 matinee Sunday, February
27 at the Jake & Freda Stein Hall of the Bass Cultural
Center.Tickets are available at Dattel and Co., McCormick's
Book Inn, Wells-Lott Village Pharmacy, and Jacobs of Leland
and cost $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students.
The
cast will include: Andy Alexander as Judas; Jamie Drake as
Jesus of Nazareth; Deanna Harper as Mary Magdalene; Cory Cunningham
as the First Priest; Bill Walker as the Second Priest; Brad
Jordan as Caiaphus; Sam Peeples as Annas; Kenny Ware as Simon;
Bill Downs as Pontius Pilate; Thad Simpson as Peter; Cal Dotson
as King Herod; and Brenda Mitchell as the Maid by the Fire.
Other
cast members include Donna Harrison, Penny Byler, Jessi Epting,
Lauri Black, Pamela Jacobson-Kaplan, Katherine Menhard, JoAnn
Henry,Lennon Parham, Abby Kinnebrew, Cindi Miller, Jackie
Drew, Tranita Thomas, Mary Frances Maxey, Queenetta Wilson,
Castleen Tindall, Amanda Claire Clark, CMaureen McCraine,
Doreen Herren, Natalie West, Tim Bailey, Ron Ron Cheng, Mike
Elrod, Rex Wooley, and Bob Bohnke.
The show
is being directed by Sonya Bixler and Andrew Hoszowski. Andy
Alexander is serving as Musical Director with Aaron Robinson
as pianist.
