ANNE
FRANK was just one of the millions of Jewish victims of Nazi
persecution during World War II. Her family tried to escape
the Nazis by going in to hiding. In July of 1942, Otto Frank,
his wife Edith, and their daughters Margot and Anne, hid in
the building of Mr. Franks business in Amsterdam, Holland.
The uppermost floors of the back annex became their secret
home.
Later
they were joined by the Van Daan family, husband, wife and
their son, Peter, as well as Mr. Dussel. All were totally
dependent on Mr. Frank's employees, especially Mr. Kraler
and Miep Gies, who visited daily, bringing them food and the
(mostly grim) news of the outside world.
During
all this Anne, a creative and usually mature early teenage
girl, kept a diary. The time frame is from their entering
the Annex until their betrayal two years later. Anne and all
her family except her father perished in the death camps of
the Holocaust. The diary was taken from the badly trashed
Annex by Miep Gies, who saved it for history.

This play
is directed by Mary Frances
Maxey with Robbie Scucchi serving as assistant director.
